Hi there , as a new user Im having a few issues with the Raven ,
Some are just learning curve stuff ...., and others are not.
Firstly ; Ravens Built in Icons
- The main trouble I am having is ....,
- When I press the Icon Slot below a fader module , the floating Icon Window is meant to appear yes ? ...., but this will only happen for me in 1 out of 100 attempts ?
Note; Ive checked re-callabration , and sensitivity levels, plus all my other buttons seem to be working fine ..., does anyone know why this is happening ?
Also regarding the actual Raven track Icons and Ravens track naming ...., I have some question about customisation and choices ......................, ?
In pro tools ..., I had gotten used to my customised bold track Colors BAR shown at the bottom of the Pro tools mix window (under comments) , and also my customised list of track names that I always used
..., and since I have just started using my Raven, I am finding my previous "easy to find customised locations" being replaced in the Raven - with a very generic 4 digit track name (that is not descriptive enough IMHO) ..., and my customised Bold colorered grouping Bar being replaced with a too generic icon .
RE; The Icons
- Is it possible to add your own collection of photos into these slots ?
...., or is it possible to fill the slot with the same selected Bold colour bar that was originally in place in the Pro tools mix window ? (ie; below comments in P.T mix window)
...., or Both these above options would be ideal
- for example ..., I use Bright Green for guitars ..., but use a very slightly different shade of green for the different guitar types (or parts) ..., and unless the color palate saturation is at 100% (making the whole mix page is too bright and multicoloured and confusing IMO) - you would not notice the difference in slight colour variations without having to looking the BOLD colour Bar at the bottom of the screen (as for me - this was always the most noticable thing at a short glance IMHO , and also made your mix page look neat and tidy , well uniformed , and very organised.
Note; I do know "another" BOLD colour bar still remains at the top of the screen , but when your mixing you are quickly making adjustments everywhere - its the bottom of the screen where your eyes are mostly focused
(ie; on the faders and the track names) ....., and as Im talking about speeding up work flow here , 100% of your concentration needs to on listening to the mix and quickly jumping between tracks/faders , not for finding your way around the place.
With the Raven ICONS ....., I find a picture of a black Les Paul guitar really confusing and off putting when its used for everything entirely to do with guitars ?
......, and I still forced to read the generic (not descriptive enough) Label to try and work out where I am ..., and I find this is slowing me down , and reducing my concentration on the mix ..., can we alter this name to that naming system we all developed and suited to our workflows in pro Tools (using all the letters and not just a 4 letter generic description as the raven allows )
Note ; Often I might have 20 guitar tracks in a project all doing different things (or doubling up) , and I'd like to see a picture of an acoustic guitar in the acoustic guitar slot , a Dobro in the Dobro slot ..., or a lap steel , or a strat etc .
But If I had a choice , I'd probably still select the pro tools BOLD colour bar (underneath comments in the mix window) ..., then I could turn the saturation level down in the P.T colour palet , to a easy on the eyes level .
Other personal dislikes about the icons ;
- There is nothing in the icons for busses / Aux tracks ..., I have busses for everything , Drum Buss, Guitar Buss , keys buss, etc, etc.
- I also often have D.I acoustic guitar , close miked acoustic guitar , far miked acoustic , D.I electric guitar , even if just used for guide tracks ..., there is nothing for guide tracks , or percussion, harmonica ... etc etc . the list goes on .....,
So even if there was all these extra ICONS ...., (I dont know - it may be customisable ? - or other choices I mentioned maybe available in future updates ?) IMO , I find all the pictures too distracting and messy anyway.
Some others may like the icons ..., I know you dont have to add an Icon
..., but for me ATM , minus the BOLD Pro Tools color bar (on the mix page in pro tools under comments) - and just using the Ravens 4 letter generic description still leaves me guessing what track it is ?
Therefore - I do think many more choices need to be made available in this dept.
One last thing Id also like to change ;
I dont like the LED Lights used in the metering in the Raven external mixer ..., I do wish they used the same metering (or type of metering) used in Pro tools ...., ie ; a continuous strip instead of those segmented LEDs
...., can anyone answer my opening question .., or add any other thoughts and comments
..., Overall I think the Ravens a great controller , and I cant wait to get more fluid and accustomed to it . Id love to see the Raven become the most user friendly controller as it could possibly be , and the Raven developers need our comments / wish lists / thoughts - So they can be considered before adding or improving features to the Raven.
Cheers
