Hello all,
I'm loving my new Raven MTi2! I had a suggestion regarding the Pro Tools internal mixer overlay for the Slate team. Hopefully other users will chime in if they agree:
I never use the Raven icons. I think they clutter up the internal mixer and they take up valuable vertical space on the MTi.
I wish there was an option to hide the icons and also shrink the faders to accommodate 5 more inserts.
Also, the HUI track names are virtually unreadable on the MTi. With unfamiliar sessions, I sometimes get lost in the mix window. I know that the 'show comments' feature can overlay the comment box and the pro tools track name bar over the internal mixer graphics. But this is a weak solution at best. It feels like a hack with the current implementation.
Here is a potential solution to the track name issue: showing 15 inserts would push the pro tools track names further down the screen. With this configuration, the Slate team could implement a feature to show the pro tools track names (no comments) in place of the Raven internal mixer HUI track names.
This would also allow users to rename and reorder tracks from the internal mixer.
Finally, the typeface used to display the fader levels is quite hard to read. Please change this to a clean sans-serif typeface. Black on red is also hard to read. White on black or green on black would be better.
This setup would really take the Raven to the next level for me.
To recap: I would like to see a layout option that would allow users to see 15 inserts. (To make room for these inserts, the Slate team could hide track icons and shrink the fader height.) Second, I would like to have the pro tools track names shown in place of the HUI track names. I believe this would be possible with 15 inserts showing.
Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions and great ideas. I will bring it up with the team. In the meantime, be sure to check out the BC panel for Inserts and Sends. This way you can easily swap and show 10 plugins instead of sends and every option in-between. I rarely use more than 5 plugs on a single track, since i do a lot of processing down the line on the buses instead, but when i do need more inserts showing this is the option I prefer to use. So quick and easy to see all your plugins.

I can get behind these requests.

To further illustrate my original post, I made a few rough mockups for the Raven internal mixer: 1) Short fader mode (15 inserts, no icons, showing Pro Tools track names [not HUI track names], 1 line of comments) 2) Long fader mode (10 inserts, no icons, HUI track names) For reference: here is what the Raven internal mixer currently looks like:

Strong agree on all that stuff! Make it so!! I don't need the long faders, but the track name thing and losing the icon slot (which I've never used) would be great.
Also, bigger Solo and Mute buttons.

Agree with this too. I mix songs with 80 plus tracks sometimes, and only having 4 letters to name and recognize things is impossible. The icon's are no use really either. Also agree with having 10 inserts. I have the batch command to switch inserts and that's helpful, but would love to have all 10 there in plain sight. Where is the show comments option?

I agree regarding the track names. There's so much space, I wish it at least displayed as it did in the PT mixer.

Any progress on this folks? Slate has been up to some awesome stuff recently. I'm sort of feeling like Raven development has stalled though.
Still not using the track icons here. I've yet to meet anyone who does.

I've yet to meet anyone who does. We are working hard on Raven everyday. I will bring up the icon issue with Programmers at our next meeting..

Excellent suggestions. +1 on urging the development team implement them.
I agree the icons are an unnecessary waste of screen real estate, but full Pro Tools track names are not!

I'd also like to add my voice to the chorus on all of this thread. I could really use readable fader values, ProTools naming, and losing the icons.
Thanks guys - all good stuff and I'm realizing that the more I use the MTi2.
I definitely feel that we've lost some valuable PT information on the Raven channel strip.

If you use show comments, then you will be able to see the full names in the Raven Internal Mixer. HUI has a limit of 4 characters, so until Avid opens up the Eucon API for other companies, our hands are tied.

so what are we seeing in the MTZ video? In that video I see what looks like Raven faders (w/the shadows) but Pro Tools displays of track names, level data, delay compensation etc. Is this a hint of V4 Raven or just something made for demo? Also I just realized this thread is 3 years old

Also I just realized this thread is 3 years old The MTZ is such a large screen that there is more room for inserts etc. If you want to see delay comp and names, just hit the "show comments" button on the MTi.

Very old post, but I totally agree with Brandonc23 and the layout he drafted up makes perfect sense. Having used my raven core station now for a few months, only having access to 10 sends/inserts is very annoying, even with the batch command for switching them. It takes me out of my creative zone when I'm trying things out.
The icon thing is completely useless to me, I used to work on an SSL duality and they have a similar icon system available on each channel strip bucket. NO ONE used it, ever! I get some Raven users may enjoy it, but theres got to be a way to re-program it so we can turn it off and on, i.e. if you want the icons you get the standard 10 slots, but if you turn it off you get 15 slots...
