Hey all,
Ok, I've just been diving into my new Raven Mti2. I'm starting to wonder if it's right for me.
I'm trying to understand how this would benefit someone's workflow other than providing multitouch so you can mix multiple faders at once and also being able to tweak plugins using touch. To me those two things are more gimmicky at this point rather than worth the $1500 price tag (here in Canada). You can achieve the same mixes without the need for multitouch. Yes, it's cool and all and feels techy and futuristic, but other than that, what are the REAL benefits over the mouse and keyboard when it comes to composing, arranging, editing and mixing a track using audio and midi?
Now I understand Batch Commander is a huge time saver once learned properly, but Batch Commander can be purchased on it's own for a TON less than what the Raven costs and if I'm understanding correctly, Batch Commander with the Raven is the same as the separate Batch Commander. The only difference is you use touch with one and the mouse with the other to trigger commands.
So, for instance, when working with midi. When drawing in notes, I can quickly draw in a note and create a pattern by holding down alt and quickly duplicating the note, dragging each note into a pattern. It's actually slower on the Raven because A: you can't hold down alt and duplicate a note such as I described above and B:I find drawing in the notes one by one tedious and slower than using a mouse and keyboard.
Another thing is when using the multitool with a mouse, you have to hover the cursor over certain areas to get the right tool. When using the touchscreen you can't hover so the multitool becomes frustrating and ineffective, essentially making the one tool that's supposed to SPEED UP your workflow actually slow you down and pretty useless.
I have a feeling editing using touch is going to prove tedious. Holding down shortcut keys and modifier keys and using the mouse doesn't seem like a hindrance or slower compared to touch. Just different. And again, other than being able to use the multitouch faders and Batch Command, I'm fearing that everything will be tedious and frustrating.
Did I buy an overpriced touch LCD when I should have just purchased Batch Commander or maybe I'm missing something here? Genuinely asking. I want to love this thing, so please enlighten me!
Thanks!
