What is the best way to add a plugin to a track that already has plugins on it? I've tried the batch commander presets with my default eq or compressor and I haven't been able to get it to work.

I find since PT2020 added the "search" option it is easier to just tap the insert and type in the name of the plugin. But you can use the "Open Next Free insert" Batch Command if your track already has plugins and you just want the custom plug to go next in the chain. http://instagram.com/p/CObVVIiAii5 Also, I find the "Track Presets" are unbelievable useful as they can add all the inserts, sends, track colors, and routing all in one go. youtu.be/P_zN8COMmaE?t=375

Here is another way to add plugins using the latest UI scripting Batch Commands. Grab the latest RAVEN 3.9.1 and check out the new UI scripts for the selected track inserts.
