SO after trashing the folder for custom icons, custom icon import started to work for the 1st time and I was having a blast importing pics from the internet, it was working fine.
The I started using shift command 4 and took on pic of the words on a doc for “Master BUS” etc. It was cool. Then suddenly, I could not import any more screen shots or regular pics. I had something like 4 rows of custom icons in the palette, but any new screen shots and any regular pics stopped making it into the icon palette.
I went to the folders inside app support folder, saw that the screen shots had made it. I decided to remove the latest screen shot pics from all 4 folders. Here is where things really broke. I no longer have ANY icons in my custom icon folder inside of Raven. So erasing approx 4 screen shots that were not working anyway, resulted in ALL the custom icons disappearing in the icon palette inside of Raven . A good hours work. I re started and re loaded DP and Raven and the custom icons are still gone from the palette box in Raven.
The funny thing is, I had saved the slate sess and the custom pics are still in the actual session, even though they cant be found in the custom palette box. So that session file is fine, but all the imported icons are not showing in the palette.
This must mean that saved custom icons in a saved sess are stored in a different folder from whatever got corrupted. Here are my questions: 1) Being that I keep having to go into the app support folder, can you explain what the 4 folders are and why there are duplicates of everything in all 4 folders? I suspect one of the folders is for pics saved with a session file.
2) Because the last time I trashed the custom icon folder resulted in the saved session losing it’s custom icons, I would like to avoid losing work/custom pics on the session file I took an hour to build. So instead of just telling me to trash the custom icons folder again, can you give me a more precise way of fixing this issue? I’d like to not ruin the saved session file and get my custom icons back into the palette.
3) Is there a limit to how many rows of custom icons are available to import into Slate? If not, having seen the past forum notices, there is something very touchy about how custom icons folder are to be handled. I am wondering if it has something to do with screen shots? I have seen other users state they use screen shots so I saw no reason not to.
PS. I still have all the deleted files in the trash, but with their variety of names and the fact that there were 4 duplicate sets of removed files, I dont quite know how to put them back into the app support folders. There were other deletes of files from the desktop so deductive reasoning to figure which file was removed from where is tough. And beside, the custom palette got messed up before I trashed any files in it. Messed up meaning it still had it;s custom icons but would import no more. Now of course, it has zero custom icons in its palette. Thanks

There are different folders in there for the 2 different sizes of icons and the 2 different types of Ravens MTi and MTX, the internal mixer and the external mixer have different size icons so they need different folder. However in DP it will only use the external mixer folder. Screen shots always work fine for me, but PNG or JPEG should all work.
Try hitting "Restore Factory Default" in the Raven settings and see if that helps..

I restored Fac defaults and it did not fix anything The palette is still blank even though files are in those app support folders. Loading the save Raven sess brings back the icons I made. I am willing to trash folders and re import all icons as they are all in a folder on my desktop. But how do I avoid losing the icons in the session file I have now? That’s why I asked what each folder does? I’d like to NOT erase the folder that has this particular session’s icons, and just erase everything else and re build That will help for now. But do you understand why removing pics from the app support files caused this? Does it seem to you there is something a bit “sensitive” about these app support folders and Raven? I already had to trash once, and then icons worked and then stopped importing at one point, so something is problematic.

Yo my fine brotha! I really do need help with my custom icon folder and your last advise did not handle things. What DOES handle things, is to trash the folders in App support. But I am trying to avoid rebuilding previously created templates and mix consoles that still show icons, even though the custom palette field is emptying the GUI. Can you please instruct me on how to NOT trash the files that are being used by my pre-existing templates? Is it possible that trashing the app support folders will not effect pre existing templates and mix files at all? Thanks for your advise.

Any icon information added to a session are saved with the .Ravlay
So track names and what pictures to add are all in the ravlay.
However the pics are in the user library..
So just re add the pics with the same name and you should be able to see them...

I've had to reload the factory default then load the .ravlay only a few times and I'm not sure the default load is what fixed it

Hi Jamey, As I suspected, trashing the custom icons folder resulted in previous layouts LOSING their pictures. In testing, YES, trashing the folder allows me to rebuild custom icons, and any new pics imported using browse will work again after having trashed the folder, whereas the folder I have now, stopped loading new icons after around 18 of them, and will no longer load any new icons/ The old folder also shows blank in the palette. So this is the 2nd time this folder has become corrupted. There is something way too touchy going on under the hood here. But again I ask you,... *********** Is there a way to trash the custom icons folder without ruining previously saved sessions containing previously created custom icons? ************
You last advise results in custom pics disappearing in previously saved sessions. The reason I am bugging you about this is that I need a way to restore old templates in the event TRASHING the custom icons folder become a consistently needed protocol for getting the icons to work. I cannot have large sessions continually losing their pics and thus, I need a way of saving old session files while fixing the custom icons folder. If it were a matter of trashing it ONE time, no problem. But something is touchy about this custom icon set up and I foresee a need to trash this folder in the future without losing hard work spent on previous saved sessions.

FWIW I am using multiple ravlays with multiple files. I also have a few stock ravlay files. I have approximately 100 custom icons that I use. Multiple pics of keys, gtrs, plugs, vocal mics, drums and percussion. It works great. I would not trash folders with your pics. I loaded all the pics using the icon chooser. Maybe that will give you some help. I would save each project with it's own ravlay and copy that ravlay to the clippings. It will open with the project and stay with that project. If you have an issue load the factory default and then reload the ravlay.

Once again Raven lost it;s mind and lost newly imported custom icons suddenly and without warning while importing. There is 100% some sort of bug in the custom icon system. Today, I went ahead and trashed the custom icon folder AGAIN. I got about 25 pics successfully loaded in and once AGAIN, I loaded a pic and poof, I was left with only 3 rows of custom icons, with many icons I had just loaded suddenly having disappeared. This is exactly what happened before. My plan originally was to make a safety folder of custom icons in case this Slate icon bug struck again. But, unfortunately, before I could complete loading all the pics I wanted to use, Raven once again lost track of them. This is ridiculous and frustrating!! The pic I had loaded that started this “lost custom icon" issue was a.jpg pic from my phone. But other .jpg had loaded successfully. Because I knew the EXACT pic that created the issue this time, I once again went to the custom icons folder in app support and tried to remove the latest pic, hoping this would fix the problem. But once again, erasing even ONE pic out of all 4 custom icon folder (“labeled”-“LabeledMTI”-“MTI”-“MTX”) erased ALL previous imported pics in the custom icon palette in the mixing window in Raven. I then decided to ONCE AGAIN erase the icon folder in APP support, and for the hell of it, this time I would try to drag all pics from the old icon folder, back into their respective folders to save time. I installed 1 new custom pic, which made Raven create a new folder, I then dragged all pics I had previously loaded from the failed folder, minus the final pic that created the problem. This did not handle the issue. So here is how things stand now: 1) I have no idea WHY or WhEN Raven will strike and decide to fail and lose it;s custom icons in the custom icon palette. I can be loading away, no problem, and then, out of nowhere, FAIL and I lose custom icons and cannot load new ones. 2) I am seriously doubting my plan of making a safety folder of all custom icons because there seems to be some sort of analysis Raven does of the custom icon folders which does not allow for direct goofing around with the folders themselves. If I even touch a pic from those folders, Raven loses ALL custom pics. So it is my guess that if a pic ruins the custom icon palette again, replacing the folders inside app support with a safety will only confuse Raven and fail.
This really sucks as it it ruining a great feature that I really need, and it is costing me a lot of time in work flow..here’s why:
The protocols for “naming” tracks and Raven make for ridiculous names showing up in the Raven mixer. This is so bad that the only way I can FIND a Fader in a big mix, is to click on the track in DP’s tracks overview window, which HIGHLIGHTS the track in Raven. Then I can “see” the track I need to adjust, and actually know what fader to move. This is time consuming and sucks. What if I “successfully” load 100 custom icons again and Raven fails on #101. At least I need to know HOW to make a safety of the custom icons folder and need some sort of trick to allow Raven to see those replaced custom icons. And better would be continued tech advise on this issue so I can find a real fix. And another thing that would be very helpful would be the ability to BATCH import custom icons so that in the event of these kind of disasters, a user could RE-import ALL pics at once instead of tediously having to import one....pic.....at.......a.......time....
I am getting very frustrated here and I need attention and help....PLEASE.
PS.
I have decided that once I re import all formerly working custom icons, (except for the JPG from my phone which seems to screw up Raven), instead of making a safety of the “custom icon” folders in app support, I will make a safety of the entire “Raven MTI” folder in app support. Maybe there is some sort of pref file in that folder that needs to be re-loaded from any safety file too? What say you? Help...lol

Can you send upload the pic that was corrupting the folder?? Then i can try it on my system and see if it cuts out the pics..
Also, try "Restore Factory Default" in the "Settings" button, this may help reset and may show your icons again.. Don't worry as this doesn't erase anything. It just resets some default settings and resets the user default ravlay.

I believe I tried “restore factory default” last time and it did not re set the icon palette, but I will try again if things corrupt. As of now, I have a certain amount of pics that have installed successfully and I am working. But I never know which pic will create disaster. I am emailing you the pic as I couldn’t see how to attach an upload here. Look for the email “Custom icons stopped showing”. @ your above email. But I will say this: the pic that corrupted the folders this time was a NEW pic. That means whatever corrupted the folders the previous TWO times was different pics. And seeing the SIZE of the pic, it equals 229 KB. There are larger files than that that have successfully loaded, so it isn;t a matter of size. And there are other jpgs too, so it isn’t type. As of now, I am very reluctant to add new icons, thus I will try to stick to screen shots unless absolutely necessary, until you give me some advise that fixes this. Thanks.

Switching from DP 9 to DP8 lost my custom icons. All gone. Any solutions would be appreciated.

Switching from DP 9 to DP8 lost my custom icons. All gone. Any solutions would be appreciated. You will need to drag the icons into the DP 8 folder in the user library. In order to navigate to the User/Libary, hold down the Option Modifier while clicking the "Go" tab in finder. This will reveal the User Library. Once opened, scroll to Application Support/Slate Media Technolgy/Raven MTI/Icons The next update will have the custom icons working much better also. Where they now pop up after restart and on the default layouts.

Sorry, bit lost? I already found the icons folder yesterday, but where is the DP 8 folder for icons? I just saw one custom icon folder in app support. Could you reiterate your instructions step by step please? Sorry if I am not getting something. Good to hear icons will be improved. Without icons, to me, Raven really loses it;s usefulness as finding faders is way too hard. Also, there IS IS IS a BUG when you switch to editing aux sends. Randomly, but often enough to KNOW there is a problem, Slate will get stuck after switching to aux editing, and the aux faders swap and start controlling the main faders. Then, perhaps after switching faders groups and working for a bit, Raven switches back. Aslo, there is so much wasted room in raven. It is really bad that I cannot record enable the various modes FROM Raven. This makes me have to have DP faders on one screen for setting automation modes. And in the aux section, there is so much wasted room that could be dedicated to mutes and other DP buttons. Hope the next update makes it easier to set automation modes and uses some of that wasted Raven real estate.

The folder gets created when you import your first icon, so you will need to do that in DP8 before the folder will show up.
Unfortunately there isn't much we can do with DP automation modes, since there are so many of them and DP doesn't allow these to be controlled through HUI very easily. I will ask V-control if they can get this info for us..

Try only using Inserts and Sends on your DP mixer. Have it sit above the floating mixer. Bank 24 channels and the DP mixer follows perfectly. I have had over 5 banks working through the entire project with no issues. I only use the Big Raven for the last couple passes at the mix when I am no longer in need of seeing the inserts, sends and routing. I have gotten so accurate with touch I can open any of the 5 inserts I have visible. You can have more you just need to pull down the floating mixer. 5 inserts and 4 sends work for me until way into the project. Also open plugin BCs work great with next and previous insert options. Honestly it took me a while to get what I use now. Last night I was mixing the drums on the left faders and the guitar player reached over and balanced 4 of the guitar tracks using faders on the right. It was awesome I realized 8 faders were being touched at the same time. Reminded me of the old days "all hands on deck." I think they could tighten up the size of the aux mixer but I find I don't use it until later in the session. I still mouse the send levels on the always visible DP mixer... Try setting the floating mixer to just 16 channels and see if you like having all the space around that set up to put in DP windows to your liking.

When you bank 24 or single or swipe on the floating mixer the DP mixer needs to be selected also. If selected to TW or SE it will bank Tracks window and Sequence editor instead of mixer window. In the DP mixer section though you may only have 4 sends in the set up you can have unlimited FX returns. If you use the Bundle window to name aux sends it makes it easy to keep track and select the desired aux as opposed to a hardware mixer where each aux send goes to a particular set of FX. With one rack of Batch command there are 8 inserts and 5 Auxes available. Also you could have as many inserts and auxes available it you don't mind scrolling.
Lastly I have gotten in the habit of saving a ravlay with the song and naming it same as song or even song version.
