Hi guys i tried out a raven yesterday and I was really disappointed with the touch editing, I just feel I will always work faster with a mouse. it was calibrated properly but I just found the plugin insert/send button way too unresponsive. I also felt this was the case when editing clips/ closing plugins etc.
my question is, can you just use the raven as the mixer and use a separate screen as my pro tools edit window. This seems a no brainer as the raven as a 24 fader touch surface is reasonable. I want to be able to use a mouse on my monitor and the faders using my fingers on the MTI. also if I did want to edit the automation on the raven screen Thanks in advance

Yeah, you can do that with two screens. Raven as Mixer and Another as editor.
There is also a "Close Plugin" button on the raven which i use a million times a day.
At first it is hard to get used to the touch, but after a couple weeks you will be flying, I can edit and add plugs ins super easy (just took a while to adjust).

MTI , to me, seems not particulary suited for precise editing task, mouse work much faster. For automation its fun, but i go really fast just using it as you describe, riding fader and touching plugins (btw use the close plugin button as JameyZ said). Surely editing on a MTX is easier, but I never used one yet.

One of the key is to have a good set of zooming tool if you want to really edit by hand; for now i'm just happy using BCs with one hand and selecting things with the mouse in the other hand; the workflow is incredible like this.

Hey Paulyd2,
Editing on the RAVEN was a little foreign for me at first, I suggest playing around with Batch Commands for editing, I could share one of my layouts with you. I have many using nudges and pre set zooms to make life 1000 times easier. I cant edit without them now.

whichever screen is selected in the Serial Number drop menu will be the screen that calibrates.. so just switch the serial number to the other screen and hit calibrate... hope this helps

It would be great if you share your editing layouts with us, Trevor! I'm still working on creating my own and having other people's input would be awesome.

Let me be more clear i don´t have 2 serials in drop down menu!!! only 1... but if i disconnect that serial, the other comes in automatically because the usb of that raven is in... It doesn´t accept 2 serials in drop down menu RRRRR to calibrate. WHY

whichever screen is selected in the Serial Number drop menu will be the screen that calibrates.. so just switch the serial number to the other screen and hit calibrate... hope this helps i just received two b-stock raven mti's about 3 weeks ago. was wondering if you, or anyone else might have seen anything like what's happening during my dual mti calibration, and if there's a fix for it? no issues with both ravens being recognized in the multitouch software (manual/online-resources thoroughly read and setup completed correctly). raven software runs fine in dual mode for pt11 (somewhat fine anyway....certainly not without its glitches though - or maybe it has to do with these particular units being b-stock product??). anyway, the issue is completely when it comes to calibration of the dual screens together (mac display preferences are correct according to what slate suggests). when i go to calibrate each screen, it does this (just so you have an idea): calibrating the left raven mti (left set to main display in preferences).-the 1st red cross shows up on the upper left side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). - the mouse arrow shows up 4-6 inches to the right of where i'm touching.-that red cross turns green. -the 2nd red cross shows up on the lower left side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). - the mouse arrow shows up 4-6 inches to the right of where i'm touching.-that red cross turns green. -the 3rd red cross shows up on the upper right side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). - the mouse arrow shows up right where it's supposed to (right where i'm touching).-that red cross turns green. -the last red cross shows up on the lower right side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). - the mouse arrow shows up right where it's supposed to (right where i'm touching).-that red cross turns green. calibrating the right raven mti:-the 1st red cross shows up on the upper left side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). -the mouse arrow shows up right where it's supposed to (right where i'm touching).-that red cross turns green. -the 2nd red cross shows up on the lower left side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). -the mouse arrow shows up right where it's supposed to (right where i'm touching).-that red cross turns green. -the 3rd red cross shows up on the upper right side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). - the mouse arrow shows up 4-6 inches to the left of where i'm touching.-that red cross turns green. -the last red cross shows up on the lower right side. -i touch it to calibrate (as instructed - angled, not pointing down). - the mouse arrow shows up 4-6 inches to the left of where i'm touching.-that red cross turns green. so, if i explained that clearly, it's like this....if you're centered between both raven's, the inside points of each respectively calibrate just fine. (i'm centering up to each raven individually when doing the actual calibrations). it's the outer points that seem to be a problem. the left (main) screen is accurately calibrated when all is said and done, but the right screen is off. sometime's by a 1/4", other times by almost 1". it always works perfect if you just run one raven. i've troubleshot every possible way i can think of. i've switched out dvi cables, configurations (left to right, etc..), preferences...everything....the only work around i've found so far is to keep running the multitouch calibration on the right screen until you hit the 'sweet spot' on the outer two points, which unfortunately is a guessing game. (you hit the 'sweet spot' by not touching the cross, but rather touching an area anywhere from 1/8" to 1" off of the cross. again, this is a work around, and it does work once you find it, it's just annoying is all. anyone have a real remedy? first impressions off my first 3 weeks with this machine could be better. i can definitely see the potential, and i'm sure it's only improving as i type this, but there have been numerous glitches in my dual raven setup so far.

I use dual Ravens for most my work and once I get the calibration correct they work fine even from the far corners... It could be possible that your right Raven is messed up.. Have you tried moving the right Raven to the left??
The mouse should show up directly under your finger when calibrating..
Hit me up on skype and maybe I can help trouble shoot for you..

Thanks for the reply's guys...I've been away all day & just got to the studio and saw your responses. My apologies for getting back to you late.
Jameyz: I have switched both monitors left to right, right to left, switched DVI cables. Like I was saying, I got it to work, but when you go to calibrate with the dual screens you have to find a sweet spot on the outer calibration points of both screens really. It's weird. You are correct, once you get it calibrated, it does stay pretty on point & you can get pretty accurate with it & I have gotten it calibrated and working somewhat to par. I just have to do it in a bass-ackwards way to get it there. either way, mine still gets off every once in a while and thing seems 'glitchy' with it.. I can still Skype you whenever's good for you. I'll can hit you up shortly. You can at least visually see what I'm talking about.
Yes, I am using the most up to date software version. I have also performed a complete uninstall & re-install once already when I initially got the ravens.
Trevor: 10-4....I'll start a support ticket & reference this conversation.
I have other things that also just don't seem to be working correctly. for instance, I've been trying to save my own custom icons as described in the manual, as well as in any ways possible & suggested on this forum (.png, snapshot .png, jpeg, pdf, etc. ). Some pics load at some times, then they won't. Then the software just seems to lock up arbitrarily, (just when it comes to custom icons). I've tried every suggested work around I can find. Nothing works. It worked fine the first couple days I had them (I received them March 23). then they just kind of stopped working.
Other things that seems 'glitchy' the external raven mixer only stays on the mix window screen. Is this a dual mti thing? I've seen footage online of people having the floating mixer over the edit window. Doesn't seem possible on my setup.
Anyway, thanks again for the help guys. I'm sure we'll get it worked out. Don't get me wrong, I'm still loving these things, & I don't regret my purchase in any way. It's the future & it's only going to get better. Just gotta work out some kinks on my setup I guess. Cheers.

Hey Stickeymosit,
We are away of the icon issue and have a fix for it in the next update. Also are you on Yosemite?
