Hi all, New user here with two MTI2 screens, on LPX. I've been messing around with touch and the Raven software. Outside of the general awesomeness of touch screens in a DAW environment (been waiting for this since like 1995), I do have some questions. If anyone feels inclined to comment or provide your feedback/experience, I would surely appreciate it. 1. I seem to randomly lose touch (on the Raven, I mean). Not real often, but enough. I finally figured out that it comes back by unplugging/plugging back the usb cable in my usb hub. I wonder if that's been a common occurrence for you all, or if maybe my usb hub is the culprit? 2. This one's more of an observation, but I haven't been able to find good documentation on dual Raven setup, especially around how UPDD identifies which monitor is which (which it doesn't really, at least not in a user friendly manner). I finally figured it out, but man, it would have saved me some time if there was better documentation in the manual. 3. Is it just me, or are there quite a few factory batch commands that are just duplicate functions, but named slightly different? 4. On the same topic, is there any documentation or any way to see what the key commands actually are in the factory batch commands? It would be useful as starting points to edit further or create new custom commands. Maybe I'm just missing something on this one. 5. Still on the same topic, there seem to be quite some spelling errors in the names of batch commands / panels. Hmm... 6. Am I right in my realization that within one layout, we cannot create or delete panels or command buttons (i.e. we're stuck with whatever is provided)? I sure wish there was a way to create new panels / buttons as needed, and to customize the number of buttons per panel. Or even if more of the empty panels in different configurations were provided. 7. The user default setting doesn't seem to be sticking. I save it with the session, and I see that it's set when I load the session, but I thought the whole point was for Raven to load the user default session on startup. Whenever I start Raven up, it opens with the factory default session. Any thoughts? I've read through as much of the forum topics as I had time to, and through some of the support topics. It just seems kinda difficult to glean more specific information on batch command usage. Thanks to any to read through this and provide any responses. Cornel

I finally figured out that it comes back by unplugging/plugging back the usb cable in my usb hub. I wonder if that's been a common occurrence for you all, or if maybe my usb hub is the culprit? I would plug the Raven directly in the computer. USB hubs can cause drop outs in the touch screen as the touch is powered from the USB. Are you on Dual Raven?? Which OS?? you may need an updated touch driver for Dual, For more info on UPDD check out their website.. touch-base.com/documentation.asp3. Is it just me, or are there quite a few factory batch commands that are just duplicate functions, but named slightly different? Their shouldn't be any duplicates, which ones are you seeing??
4. On the same topic, is there any documentation or any way to see what the key commands actually are in the factory batch commands? It would be useful as starting points to edit further or create new custom commands. Maybe I'm just missing something on this one. Mainly key commands for the tools and automation have been added to the Raven keys. I will try to track down what else was added. This is a good idea to add these into the manual.. 5. Still on the same topic, there seem to be quite some spelling errors in the names of batch commands / panels. Hmm... I really hope it was only to save space on the panel. But where are you seeing these?? You can save/delete/load all the panels. However no way to create blank ones without overwriting what is there. youtu.be/FAfzdCk5PAE?t=26m59s7. The user default setting doesn't seem to be sticking. I save it with the session, and I see that it's set when I load the session, but I thought the whole point was for Raven to load the user default session on startup. Whenever I start Raven up, it opens with the factory default session. Any thoughts? Press the "Settings" button on the bottom right of the Raven toolbar. Then press "restore factory default". Each time Raven is updated users should Save their default Ravlay then "Restore Factory Default" and reset the user default. Also, be sure you are overwriting the layout and saving the Raven session when any changes are made. youtu.be/FAfzdCk5PAE?t=21m58s

Thanks for responding, Jamey. 1. Yeah, I wish I could do that, but I'm on a MacBook Pro, and I don't have enough USB ports to connect directly and still be able to use all the peripherals I need. I'll start looking into a thunderbolt hub maybe, although I'm not sure that would make a difference. My USB hub is powered, got it plugged it, but maybe that's still problematic. 2. I'm on El Capitan, dual Raven. I checked the UPDD website, looks like I have the current version. The way I got it working was to figure out which monitor is which and then manually calibrate. Otherwise, one screen touch controls both screens, and/or touch gets hosed every time I reboot or come back from sleep. 3. One example, in the batch command factory quicklist, 'Close Front Window' vs. 'Close Window In Front'. Not sure if the two scripts do the same thing or not. 4. Thanks, I'll check the Raven keys. 5. Actually the spelling issues in the names are just in the batch commands, not the panels, so I misspoke regarding the panels. Examples of spelling issues with batch commands (Factory tab in the Quiklist): 'Bounc Sound Cloud', 'Conert Selection To New ESX 24 Instrument', 'Conifg Track Header', 'Convrt Region Sample', Marquee is spelled as 'Marqee' or 'Marqe' in most Marquee commands, 'Renam Marker', 'Rev Verb Marqe', 'Reveb Marq Select', 'Viw Waveform Small', 'Volum Tool Edit'. There are also quite a few where words have upper case letters sorta randomly in there. Don't mean to nitpick, I just notice this stuff Perhaps it can be argued that some of these are abbreviations, but given the length of many of the command names, abbreviating does not seem necessary. Like I said, just noticing, no biggie. 6. Yeah, that's what I've noticed 7. I'll check the video, thanks!

Actually, one additional question/issue: Since yesterday, when I save a layout, save the session, and then re-load the session, the settings button disappears from the bottom rack on the main Raven screen, and is moved to one of the racks that I can only see when customizing toolbars. Any ideas? I've tried saving the layout to a different slot, starting from scratch, saving to a different session, etc. The issue always comes back now. Thanks!

I've looked at the video, and I'm trying to reconcile it to what you say above. I'm still vague. You seem to be saying that after I customize anything in Raven and save the layout, I should press "restore factory default"? That doesn't make sense to me, as that action will actually restore the factory default and overwrite my changes. Would you mind explaining in more detail, please? Again, my issue is that once I make a change, save the layout, press 'set user default' in settings, and then save the session, the user default will not automatically load when I restart Raven.
Thanks!

There needs to be a bit more space between 'Customize Toolbar' and 'Settings' than created if you butt 'Settings' right up against 'Customize Toolbar'. Issue solved, for now.

Ok, I have a feeling this is due to Dual Raven and el capitan. send me an email and I will get you a new driver that works much better for dual ravens on El cap. 2. I'm on El Capitan, dual Raven. I checked the UPDD website, looks like I have the current version. The way I got it working was to figure out which monitor is which and then manually calibrate. One example, in the batch command factory quicklist, 'Close Front Window' vs. 'Close Window In Front'. Not sure if the two scripts do the same thing or not. OK, those are the same code. I will have one of them removed. 4. Thanks, I'll check the Raven keys. 5. Actually the spelling issues in the names are just in the batch commands, not the panels, so I misspoke regarding the panels. I think a lot of these are due to the early versions of raven, where the bc buttons where really tiny, so you couldn't fit whole names on the buttons.

So I just HAVE to give Jamey some well deserved kudos. He generously offered to spend some time with me and my system one on one, and on a Saturday no less. He worked with me through my issues and got me going, not to mention good conversation. Top notch! And he's a great guy, very personable, and was very receptive to feedback. Thanks again, Jamey!
